HOW TO TAKE 20 POUNDS OFF TOUR MAN - FOREWORD (PART 2)
It has been estimated that several thousand diets have been published, and probably twice that number have been tried by the American public. Everything from the Beverly Hills Diet to the Drinking Man's Diet has tempted legions to reduce. Though the initial success rate is high, the long-term loss maintenance has proven dismal. Despite the use of modern techniques such as biofeedback, hypnotism, behavior modification, acupuncture, hospital-based eating-disorder centers, and so on, dieters continue to falter and fall by the wayside. In spite of the use of blue (non-fat) milk, sawdust like bread, macrobiotic diets, and health food stores, this has been a disappointing era for the overweight.
I was therefore quite surprised and pleased to read this innovative book and discover how my patient and his wife succeeded. Ms. Kalter feels that most overweight Americans, including her husband, suffer from a problem with appetite, not hunger. She was able to take this suffering gentleman, "who quickly makes food 'all gone' more efficiently than a garbage disposal," and make him see the light.
